About Lucy
I am a writer primarily, working on a short story collection and script work! I gained my BA in English Literature from the University of East Anglia, one of the leading universities in this country for the subject, residing in Norwich which has been named one of the leading literary cities in the UK. I am an NCTJ qualified journalist, of which I worked abroad and in the UK in my early 20’s. Journalism taught me the intricacies of grammar and producing flawless copy, which my students benefit from greatly. I reported across a broad spectrum of industries, from trade finance to arts and culture in London. While I was studying for my MA in Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London, I worked at the Victoria and Albert Museum, as well as facilitating various book clubs and acting as an editor for the university’s online literary journal. I have a love of language and literature which led me to teach as an unqualified teacher within a school environment once my MA was complete. Here I led classes of 30 plus students in the subject, as well as smaller groups for those with an interest in Creative Writing. Working in a school has been invaluable to my tutoring, as it has shown me what is covered in detail within the classroom, and what parts are less covered, which is why your child may be having difficulty in some areas. Past clients have included students who have jumped two grades due to my tuition, as well as those on the special educational needs register, who need some skills solidified at their own pace.

I have a passion for every child having the right to engage with literature! My approach to tutoring is based on the child and their needs. I find out exactly what they need help with and build from that, always working on their confidence to discuss topics within the subject. I have experience working with children on the SEN register, and understand what elements need to be worked on here. Checking for understanding is one of my key components, and I don’t move on until I am confident your child gets the lingo! Whether that’s Shakespeare, Chaucer or simply understanding a grammatical twist. I have a warm, friendly approach and love to see my clients progress in their knowledge of the subject! There will always be some written work during my lessons, as I find it more effective than homework. This is because we can locate the misconceptions before they set in and make it far easier to correct. I have experience tutoring the 11+and have successfully seen past pupils into their choice of secondary school. I have an enhanced DBS certificate (shown at request) and have completed in-house safeguarding training.
