About Esme
I am a passionate guitar tutor with 11 years of teaching experience and a strong background in world music. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Guitar Studies, which has given me a solid foundation in technique and musical expression. My expertise spans diverse styles, including Flamenco, Bossa Nova, Indian Classical Fusion, and African fingerstyle. I love introducing students to the richness of rhythmic diversity, exploring how different cultures approach timing, phrasing, and groove. Alternate tunings are a regular part of my lessons, opening doors to unique sounds and creative expression. I integrate music theory with practical playing, helping students understand both structure and feeling. Through guided exercises and repertoire, I encourage students to experiment, improvise, and find their own voice on the guitar. I also share insights into global musical heritage, showing how culture shapes melody, rhythm, and technique. Each lesson is personalized to the student’s goals, whether performing, composing, or simply enjoying music. I aim to make learning engaging, interactive, and inspiring. My teaching philosophy combines discipline with creativity, ensuring steady progress while keeping the joy of playing alive. My teaching approach focuses on developing both skill and passion for guitar. I guide students from beginner to advanced levels, tailoring lessons to each individual’s goals. We explore various styles, including classical, jazz, electric, bass, and acoustic guitar.
I emphasize ear training to help students recognize notes, chords, and melodies accurately. Music theory is integrated into every lesson, making it easier to understand compositions and improvise confidently. Performance coaching is a key part of my method, helping students play confidently in front of an audience or record themselves.
I also incorporate modern tools like DAWs, amp simulators, and metronome apps to make practice engaging and effective. Personalized instruction ensures each student progresses at their own pace while mastering technique and expression. I help students analyze challenging pieces and encourage them to explore creative interpretations.
My lessons are a mix of structured practice, creative exercises, and real-life examples from popular and complex compositions. Students not only learn songs but also gain the skills to experiment and perform them their own way. I am committed to supporting every learner in excelling and enjoying the journey of music.
