About Kevin
I am a musicologist (music historian and critic) who teaches first-year writing classes and classes in art criticism music in a private liberal arts college setting. I also work as a writing consultant and editor for doctoral candidates and professors looking to publish their research. I am a composer, pianist, and creative writer. My research interests involve how music helps communities cohere and contributes to identity formation, particularly among marginalized people. Working with students brings me immense joy, and students frequently express their gratitude for my personable style and ability to unpack concepts in multiple ways, according to students' needs.

I design my classes and my individual tutoring sessions to be iterative, building upon the previous lesson. That means I am adaptable, attuned to the student's interests and progress. Among my university students, I am perceived as a particularly accessible and caring professor, as evidenced in students' nominations of me for teaching awards.
I offer tutoring in writing for high school students thinking about college applications, as well as for any writer who wants a little guidance. In addition to general college writing, I teach courses in the fine arts, particularly in music history and criticism. I also work with doctoral candidates as they prepare their dissertations.
