About Sherry
Welcome to my profile! I am a patient, enthusiastic, and experienced Mandarin tutor dedicated to helping you find your voice in Chinese.
What makes me different? I believe language learning should be practical and connected to real life. I don't just teach you words; I teach you how to think and interact in Mandarin.
I hold a professional background in Finance, which means I am highly organized and skilled at breaking down complex concepts into simple, understandable parts. For advanced students, I offer specialized lessons in Business Chinese. For beginners and travelers, I focus on building your confidence through interactive discussions and clear, logical explanations of characters and tones.
Based in the UK, I understand the challenges of learning a new language in a different cultural context. I am here to bridge that gap for you. My classroom is a safe space where mistakes are welcomed as part of the learning process. Let's start this journey together!

My Teaching Method and Techniques I focus heavily on listening and speaking skills to build your confidence in natural communication. For reading and writing, I don't just ask you to memorize strokes; instead, I explain the shape and meaning (etymology) of Chinese characters. This helps you understand the logic behind the characters, making them much easier to remember.
A Typical Lesson Plan My lessons follow a progressive, "step-by-step" structure:
Topic Introduction: We start by exploring the lesson's main theme.
Vocabulary Breakdown: I explain new words in context.
Reading & Comprehension: We read an article or story together to ensure you understand the narrative.
Discussion & Expression: Finally, we move to a guided discussion where you practice expressing your own thoughts, feelings, and insights on the topic.
What Sets Me Apart
Methodology over Drills: I prioritize teaching you how to learn effectively rather than making you do repetitive, mechanical exercises.
Practicality: I connect teaching content to real-life situations. My goal is to teach you Chinese that is actually used in the real world, not just "textbook language."
Versatility: We can discuss a wide range of topics, from culture to daily life.
Atmosphere: I am known for being friendly, patient, and creating a stress-free environment for you to make mistakes and learn.
Who These Lessons Are For
Levels: Absolute beginners (Zero-basis) to Upper-Intermediate (B2).
Students: Business professionals, travelers, or anyone interested in exploring Chinese culture and language.
