About Elva
I am a passionate singing tutor with over 10 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice. My love for music runs deep, and I believe in its power to transform not just voices, but lives. Over the years, I’ve helped students develop strong skills in ear training, harmony, and melody, building the foundation for confident and expressive singing. I teach a wide range of styles, from classical and pop to jazz, blues, and even movie singing, giving every student the chance to discover their own unique voice. Lessons focus on vocal training, music theory, sight singing, and performance techniques—ensuring singers grow both technically and artistically. My work spans school students, college learners, and aspiring professionals, each with different goals but the same desire to connect deeply with music. I bring improvisation and composition into lessons to spark creativity, while also sharing insights from music history and music technology to enrich understanding. I believe singing is more than hitting the right notes—it’s about telling a story, expressing emotion, and finding your true voice. My singing methodology is built around one core idea: every voice has a unique story to tell. For the adult beginner, that story often starts with confidence—learning to shape vocal tone in a way that feels natural, not forced. We explore gentle warm-ups and focused exercises, helping them hear their own voice clearly for the first time. For the advanced teen, the journey is about refining skill while unlocking creativity, moving beyond technique into bold self-expression. Song interpretation is central in every lesson. I guide students to look past the notes, using lyric analysis sheets to uncover the emotion and intent behind every phrase. Storytelling through music becomes second nature as they connect words to feeling, and feeling to sound. Genre exploration plays a huge role, letting each singer discover unexpected colours in their voice—jazz for nuance, pop for energy, classical for control, or blues for grit. Improvisation adds another layer, turning “what if” moments into creative sparks. We use practical tools to track and inspire growth—vocal journals for reflections, melody trainers for pitch shaping, and even DAWs for playful recording experiments. These resources make practice more engaging and progress more visible. Whether starting fresh or pushing boundaries, every student learns that their voice isn’t just an instrument—it’s an identity. And with each song, they gain the courage to share that identity with the world.
