I love learning in the classroom, and I'm passionate about reading, writing, and communicating effectively. I know what it feels like to struggle with anxiety about speaking publicly, but I have had boatloads of practice and many tried and true strategies that make the process comfortable. I'm a super sleuth at improving writing, and I have many tools that I'm willing to share to help you grow, too! Most importantly, I care about you as a whole person, not just as a student. I specialize in supporting middle to high school students, and I'm here to help with anything related to English, speech, or journalism.
At the start of every lesson, I review our learning goal for the session. Then I give a quick mini-lesson with some modeling and time for questions. After that, I provide in-person practice (I don't add extra homework unless you ask). I follow this up with feedback and ask students to reflect on their learning. If they feel like they are getting it, I will plan for the next step. Otherwise, I will revisit and problem-solve until my student feels more confident.
I seek out subjects and assignments that engage my students. I like to add games and student-specific reading topics to help the work feel more relaxing and enjoyable.
