About Samuel
I have played drums for 15 years and trained in many styles and techniques. I have extensive experience performing and recording across multiple genres including musical theater, jazz, rock, pop and metal. Currently, I'm a session musician for various artists and regularly perform in Brisbane with cover bands and my original project Nonberk. Some artists and performers I have worked alongside are ZZade, Harry Kidd, Staples, Grant Collins, Stray Dog Saviours, Dark Moon Society and Rocket Frog. I absolutely love teaching and I spent a year as a teacher assistant working with learning disabilities. I hold a blue card and love working with kids, but I work with all ages and skill levels- everyone is welcome! I currently work as the Percussion Tutor and Drumline Director at St Johns Anglican College, Forest Lake. I also teach music technology and am studying my Masters of Teaching to become a classroom teacher.

Hi there! I offer Brisbane (Rocklea) based drum lessons in my home studio to all ages and skill levels, specialising in beginners and intermediate players.
I want to help you play the sort of music that you want to play. Whether you want to read music, play on stages or in studios or just rock-out in a garage, I'll take you there. I have experience in musical theatre, jazz, metal, rock, pop, indie and classical percussion.
The studio:
- An acoustic drumset for you to learn how real drums sound and feel
- An electric drumset for me to teach you on, with pro level speakers so I can turn myself up and down suit the volume needs of whatever you’re playing. This allows me to demonstrate concepts to you and for us to jam while keeping you comfortable and in the spotlight!
- Professional studio headphones to protect your ears and allow us both to independently listen to backing tracks while learn and jam, at our own comfortable volume.
- Video setup so we can capture what happens in real time for you to practice with after
- A large TV for us to play along with easy to follow notation and online resources

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Please provide a minimum of 24 hours notice when cancelling lessons, as most lesson spots are in high demand during after-school/after-work hours. Cancellations of lessons within package bundles made within less than 24 hours of confirmed lesson timeslots will not be offered a free-of-charge rescheduling and will be charged as a part of the pre-paid package. This is to accommodate the wait list of students and time required to book students into high-demand timeslots.

Perfect! Sam has been an awesome teacher from the first lesson. He is patient and can spot my weak point fast and adjust the lesson accordingly. Because of his method I learnt the basics very smoothly. And now I can play along with some rock songs! The lessons are so enjoyable that time passes quickly for me! I really appreciate Sam's patience and efforts. Looking forward to my next lessons after getting back to Brisbane!
- Minsi has been a real treat to have given lessons to, from the first lesson we got her to play along to her favourite song by the 1975! It has been a pleasure showing her the ropes of improvisation and the fundamentals of finding a groove and pocket to jam out in. She is currently off and about travelling Australia and the world but I would love to teach her more if she comes back my way!Samuel's response :
Perfect! Samuel Monk is an amazing drum teacher in so many ways. He is so focussed and determined to get his students from amateurs to complete rock stars, he is so nice and helpful and will give you the best advice to make rocking out easier for you. He will recommend you to the best music ever, and he knows how to listen to every piece of music and he teaches in the best ways. He is so supportive and funny. Sam is one of a kind and I would recommend him to everyone who wants to turn into the next Dave Grohl, and I promise you he will help you out so much.
