About David
I have extensive teaching experience, both privately and in schools, and have led numerous cello sectionals and chamber music coaching sessions. I currently teach cello at Arnold House School and Surbiton High School, both private schools. In 2013, I was a cello professor at Leeds College of Music.
As a performer, I have freelanced worldwide for many years, recording for film and television and frequently appearing on BBC Radio 4. In 2024, I performed in Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy Theatre, starring Nicole Scherzinger. I have also played in West End productions including Frozen, Moulin Rouge, Hamilton, &Juliet, Dear Evan Hansen, The Phantom of the Opera and Kiss Me, Kate. Additionally, I have worked with artists such as Gary Barlow, Ellie Goulding, Sam Fischer, Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson, and Aled Jones.
I hold an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) Certificate.
I trained at the Royal Northern College of Music under Emma Ferrand and at Leeds College of Music with Juliet Welchman and Judith Burgin.
I am a member of the Musicians’ Union and the European String Teachers Association.
My current students range in age from 6 to over 70 and include those preparing for ABRSM and Trinity graded examinations, as well as those learning purely for enjoyment.

Hello! I'm Dave, a freelance cellist with a passion for teaching. I offer lessons to students of all ages and abilities in Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington & Chelsea.
I teach the cello at all levels. Whether you're preparing for exams, auditions, or simply learning for enjoyment, I tailor lessons to suit your goals.
I hold an MMus in Solo Performance (Distinction) from the Royal Northern College of Music (2012) and a First-Class BA (Hons) in Music from Leeds College of Music (2010). My achievements include the Hyde Prize for Cello, Marjorie Ziff Concerto Prize, Robert Tebb Trophy for Outstanding Classical Performance, Fred and Ethel Tolson Memorial Prize for Strings, and the Joseph Stones Scholarship.
Lessons are £30 for 30 minutes, £40 for 45 minutes, and £50 for 60 minutes. I primarily teach from my home but may be able to travel depending on location and my performance schedule, with a £5 travel fee if I come to you.
My timetable is flexible, and I’m confident we can find a lesson time that works for both of us. I teach students of all ages and abilities—you’re never too old to start learning! I can prepare students for ABRSM/Trinity graded exams, scholarship auditions, music college auditions, and orchestral auditions, but I also welcome those learning purely for fun.

Perfect! My son Adam was very lucky to learn cello from David. David is an experienced cello teacher with great patience and attention to detail in the student's technique.
