About Toby
I earn my living from music, mainly composing and producing music for television but also by teaching, most recently at the Guildford Academy of Contemporary Music and at Huddersfield University. I live in the Conwy valley in North Wales. I really enjoy teaching, especially making difficult and complex subjects easier to understand.

Hello! I teach from beginner to advanced (including exam prep, up to grade 8 theory and university/conservatoire level). • Reading and writing notation (including classical music terminology) • Rhythm, intervals, keys and scales • Form, harmony and chord progressions • Analysis and composition techniques Lessons are 45 minutes and can be online or in-person if local. I have a GGSM (hons) in Composition from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I focus on making theory both practical and engaging, and teach in a clear and concise way that makes things easier to understand!
