Hi, I’m Pavel. I'm a native Russian speaker and a professional teacher with a Master's degree and many years of experience teaching both online and in schools and universities. I've also worked as an interpreter, so I understand the nuances of language from multiple perspectives. My lessons focus on communication, using well-known textbooks by top Russian and international authors, along with custom materials I create to make the learning experience even more engaging and effective. About the lesson

If your goal is to speak Russian with your partner, family, or for work, developing strong conversational skills is key. My lessons focus on practical communication, helping you build the vocabulary and grammar you need for real-life conversations in both formal and informal settings. Many students worry that Russian is difficult, but with the right approach, you’ll find it much more approachable than expected. Russian has a structured system that can actually be simpler than English in some ways. With practice, you'll quickly gain confidence in listening, speaking, and understanding the language. For beginners, the alphabet is often seen as a challenge, but it's actually one of the easiest parts of learning Russian! Most people are able to start reading within just a few hours, and from there, we can dive into more practical language skills. Another great feature of Russian is its flexible word order, which gives you more freedom compared to English. This allows for more natural expression and easier conversation building. Together, we'll work on mastering these essentials so you can confidently speak Russian with those who matter most in your life.

Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
Russian is my native language.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
It`s no doubt Nikolay Gogol, the author personalizing everything I like about literature: the story twists, the humour, the characters. People say that Alexander Pushkin created the Russian language but it is Gogol who "created" Russia in literature. He was the first to describe the main archetypes in his books, he showed the society of that time the mirror that is still very accurate.
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?
I love the fact that the deeper one goes into Russian language the more one realizes how specific it can be to convey an exact characteristic, detail or emotion.
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
Its flow and rhythm never cease to amaze me.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
For a native English speaker who does not speak any other languages the most difficult part will be the Russian grammar, in particular some unusual grammar concepts such as grammatical gender, the cases or verb conjugations. To start with it`s important to understand them on the conceptual level which is quite achievable as they also exist in most other European languages.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
The best results are achieved when a student is enjoying the learning process. It may sound obvious but very often we forget to have fun. Secondly, students who are aware of the aspects they like the most usually get better results. Those who like reading should certainly spend more time in that direction. If grammar is your thing, ask you teacher for more grammar drilling. Another great thing that I took from my school days is don`t be shy to ask questions - teachers love them!
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
Real travel and meeting real people give us authentic opportunity to practice our skills and urges us to explore new and challenging discussion topics.
What makes you a Superprof in language?
In my lesson the main focus is on communication and fluency through regular practice of speaking. I provide extensive theoretical and practical materials, and supply listening, reading, and vocabulary exercises to enhance the learning process. In my opinion a good teacher (probably just like any good person) can put her/himself in their student`s shoes, and get the feel of all the uncertainty, lack of language environment, unusual material, all those hopes and fears in general that a beginner faces on the learning path.
