About Alastair
I am a saxophonist, clarinetist and composer and Professor of Saxophone at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I hold Master's Degrees from both the University of Cambridge and the Royal Northern College of Music. I have had the pleasure of performing at World and European Saxophone Congresses as well as at the RNCM and CCCU Saxophone Days. I have recorded a number of solo and chamber albums, which have been played on BBC Radio 3, on which I have also performed live.
I am a City Music Foundation Artis, Park Lane Group Artist, BBC Introducing Artist, Live Music Now Artist, a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians, and have won awards from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, RNCM and St. Catharine’s College.
I am a performing artist for Henri Selmer Paris Saxophone and Vandoren Reeds UK.
My students have gone on to gain places at Royal College of Music, Royal Northern College of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and in ensembles including National Youth Wind Orchestra, National Youth Concert Band, National Youth Music Theatre and National Youth Jazz Orchestra.
I have had the pleasure of playing with orchestras including Philharmonia Orchestra, London Contemporary Orchestra and Royal Ballet Sinfonia as well as with jazz ensembles at Montreux and London Jazz Festivals and other jazz clubs across Europe.
I maintain a YouTube channel of teaching resources to help saxophone and clarinet students, which receives over 40,000 views each month (over 3.5 million views in total.)

I offer saxophone and clarinet lessons to students of all abilities from beginners through to aspiring professionals. (30-min, 45-min or 1-hour lessons available.) I give in-person lessons from my home in Hitchin and also offer online tuition.
Teaching has always been a major part of my career alongside work as a performer and session musician. I currently teach the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and at the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe as well as giving private tuition.
I run a YouTube channel or saxophone and clarinet resources which receives over 40,000 views each month (over 3.5 million views in total.)
