About Alex
I was "bit" by the Slavic bug now more than ten years ago, and 3 years spent living in Russian and one PhD later, I am as interested in and fascinated by the language and culture as on day one. It will be my goal to infect you with this interest in all things Russian. While my own interests reside mainly in literature, music, and film, one of the great privileges of being a teacher is that my students always bring their own interests to the table and so I look forward to engaging your own proclivities as we learn together.

While I like to focus on the grammar of the language, i.e. the finite system of rules that explains the seemingly endless variations that Russian presents us with as learners, I like my lessons to be dynamic and driven by your interests, so lessons can be as structured or free-wheeling as your prefer. If you look around these days, you will native speakers dominating foreign language instruction. But ask yourself, does being a native speaker qualify you to teach your native language? Where would you begin? It is my view of the language from without that so many of my students come to me and, dare I say, are glad they do so.
